Well, not a lot of sewing has happened over the summer holidays, but I have got a couple of things to put up here. We know, from Karen's Ugly Amnesty 4, that I hold on things for a very long time. The above top was made by me when I was 15 or 16. I can't remember what pattern it was and I forgot to ask Mum when we were visiting the other week. I also made a matching gathered skirt which I wasn't super pleased with - I had sewn it up with the pattern the wrong way up, which was really obvious when worn together (as was the fashion at the time). I used the material from the skirt some years later to make a Vogue halterneck top which was a disaster.
I found this top when digging out the wonder featured in Karen's post. I have always loved the material, but for some reason felt that I couldn't wear the top it was. I was shopping in my local town recently and noticed that a lot of the newer, 'younger' clothes shops had a lot similar shaped tops but with the exposed zipper that has been very popular for a while.
I went round the corner to the local fabric shop and bought a 20cm navy zip with metal teeth, came home and after a little bit of playing around, ended up with this:
I sort of followed this tutorial and was very pleased with the outcome (there are lots of other great things on this blog, it's worth a look!) . The top has been worn a lot since and I have received several compliments on it. Makes me wonder why I didn't wear it before....
Very clever update! Its great to get something out of the cupboard and worn again. Great pattern too!
